At the end of a long driveway, in the midst of 4 acres of bluebell woods, garden and paddock, Southfield House feels deeply rural yet is within easy driving distance of several larger towns and cities. Alton, with its attractive main street, leisure centre and listed Picture House (cinema) is 2 miles away, while Basingstoke (ice arena, waterpark and cinema), and the historic cathedral cities of Guildford and Winchester are within half an hour's drive. London is just over an hour by train from Alton.
Visitor attractions in this attractive part of Hampshire are numerous and there are several rewarding Hampshire village "trails" to follow, associated with famous literary figures and writers; Chawton and Steventon for Jane Austen, Selborne for Gilbert White and the Meon and Itchen Valleys for Isaac Walton. The Vyne and Hinton Ampner are impressive stately homes and for "steam" enthusiasts the Watercress railway line runs from Alton to Arlesford. Footpaths and bridlepaths in the immediate area are plentiful, the Golden Pot pub is just up the road and the local golf course is also within walking distance.
